December

December is Advent, then Christmas. The waiting weeks keep St. Nicholas, the Immaculate Conception, and Our Lady of Guadalupe — until the Nativity of the Lord opens the great feast of Christmas.

What to know first

December’s great days are Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Dec 8), and Nativity of the Lord (Dec 25).

For your family

Keeping December at home

Advent is kept with a wreath and a candle lit each week, growing in light as Christmas nears. St. Nicholas on the 6th fills shoes left by the door; the Immaculate Conception and Guadalupe carry the heart through the waiting.

From the 17th, the O Antiphons begin the near approach of the Lord. Christmas opens the great feast — the Nativity, the Holy Family, and the joyful days of Christmastide that run on into January.
