A Prayer For Priests
Heavenly Father, I come before you to lift up our priests: those serving in parishes or caring for retirees, those teaching in seminaries or universities, those working in diocesan offices, those in foreign missions, our religious priests. Heavenly Father, I honor your sacred name, I praise you, I express my gratitude for these men you have appointed as our spiritual leaders, those charged with guiding our Christian communities, our parish efforts. Heavenly Father, I understand that, like ourselves, they face uncertainties, doubts, and hesitations. They ponder before and after their ordination: "Is this truly my vocation?" "Am I genuinely in the right place?" "Can I preach, given my shyness?" "Will I manage to pray my divine office amidst numerous responsibilities?" "Am I pursuing mere human ambition?" Be with them, Father, support them, endow them with your strength, your Holy Spirit. Heavenly Father, our priests express that they feel unworthy of your calling. And they are correct, for no one merits it. Yet you have chosen them for the good of all. Inspire them, ease their doubts, uplift them. Let them recognize that they can always rely on you, that your love encompasses them, that you are always near. Heavenly Father, our priests occasionally find their duties burdensome. They may become disheartened. They may wonder if they can fulfill the many expectations placed upon them. Be their strength, their source of inspiration, their assurance. Grant them a heart devoted to prayer, as they need this closeness with you, for themselves and for others. Heavenly Father, our priests are not angels. Some may show their rough edges. Each one experiences fatigue, impatience, and dark times. Be their guiding light. May your Holy Word direct them daily. Speak to them in their moments of meditation and reflection. Heavenly Father, our priests sometimes endure loneliness. They may feel isolated in their ministry. This heavy burden may seem hard to bear. May the offerings of our weekly commitment and prayers, which we have pledged as the petals of daisies, give them some relief. But let your grace and strength be their true comfort, their source of resilience, their support and joy. Thank you, Heavenly Father, for these men who are our priests. May our daily prayers surround them. Hear our prayers, hear their prayers. May we always thank you for these spiritual leaders you send our way.Amen.
